Ayat on the radio
While I was trying to figure out if I should switch my car's engine off, while awaiting the next wave of movement in a traffic jam. I accidentaly tuned to the Nogoom Fm radio station, I was startled to hear a radio show hosted by an old friend of mine. I don't generally tune to NogoomFm, and I am not a regular listener at all. I can't even name any of their shows, except that I know that NogoomFM enjoys pouring hot Arabic pop into the ears of whoever is enjoying the painful experience. Well, I really can't form a fair opinion about the station. The only thing that I know is that NogoomFM is the first private FM station in Egypt. And that is, in itself, quiet a progress from state owned media. The station also has a modern, youthful and vibrant feel compared to the monotonus, boring and cheesy state radio. However, I think no one knows how the channel was allowed to exist. Together with an English language channel called NileFM. Both are owned by a single production company called Nile Radio Productions. How did they license the channel? how much do they pay for renting the airwaves? Can they discuss politics on shows? How much freedom do they get? etc..
Anyways, back to my main topic. Ayat Abou Basha was a school friend. Communication stopped after school and she entered the American University in Cairo. Aside from being a very nice and charming person, she was very talkative and used to have a huge amount of opinion on any topic. But what a strange moment it was to find someone you know, and didn't have any contact with for a long time, talking on the radio. This was very awkward and funny.
Her show unfortunately is about, something I consider extremely boring, poetry! Well, I don't consider the show boring (just in case she finds this post through an ego-search). It is just me, I didn't learn to appreciate poetry.
I tried to call her on the show, but the number was busy. I was not able to phone her from the beginning of the show since I didn't know the number and they didn't advertise about it except later. Till now I don't know the show's SMS either. Now, I am thankful that the number was busy, I realized later that calling a show about poetry and saying sorry I have no interest in poetry but I would like to congratulate you about the show might be embarrassing and a waste of time.
Well, at the end of the show. I learned that it is something related to a competition and its nothing permanent. I wish I could know more about this competition, so may be there is voting or something. Anyways, I wish her the best of luck.
