Google maps mashups

Warning! This post is very old and may contain information or opinions that are no longer valid or embarrassing.

Created mashups of several weblogs.

Omraneya

Your favourite cheap automated Egyptian blogs aggregator. BTW, not all posts appearing on the main page will be displayed on the map. The admin's favorited posts only, as there is no way I can find the RSS of the whole thing.

Global Voices Online

This one is pretty cool. Global Voices Online is a non-profit global citizens’ media project. Basicly a selection of what bloggers around the world are saying. Hand picked and refined.

BBC Arabic

To demonstrate how cool geonames is, which is a creative commons licensed database for locations. It can understand Arabic as well.

Al-Jazeera

Sorry, it seems they don't produce a valid RSS feed.

So ?

Basically these mashups work by feeding an RSS feed to geonames RSStoGeoRSS service that is then fed to Google maps which recently understands georss.
GeoRSS is a cool standard to add location information in an RSS feed.

Note: Sometimes you could get an error message, just keep on hitting on the reload button on your page. If it still fails then it is because of the RSS feed produced by the above site has some errors, and also because the above links are merely some dirty hacks.
