New Year's time lapse
Warning! This post is very old and may contain information or opinions that are no longer valid or embarrassing.
This is a time-lapse video made from serial snapshots downloaded from a public webcam in Prague. The video goes from the 31st of December till the 2nd of January. The camera is looking towards the main old square in Stare Mesto. You will be able to see the huge amount of tourists, the seasonal celebrations, a small stage and some small huts selling hot dogs, hot wine and souvenirs. You will not see the hot dogs of course, but the huts selling them are visible. Few minutes before 00:00 people start their fireworks, and the shooting reaches climax in the few seconds before 2005. Note that these fireworks are being shot by people and not the city, that is why they appear so low. Alaa, suggested that the video should run faster, then slower when it comes to the fireworks. Unfortunately, I lack the experience in doing so. So if you think the fireworks pass by quickly try reducing the frame rate or keep on hitting pause. I would like to thank Mohammed Sameer for setting up his server to capture the images. If you would like the original images as a tarball, tell me.
UPDATE 2005-04-09: There is another older time-lapse video that I made in summer 2004.
UPDATE 2007-11-8 Videos added on Vimeo and embded here.
