WYSIWYG vs Markdown

This is a quick comparison between WYSIWYG editors (such as Microsoft Word or LibreOffice Writer) and using markdown (MD) editors.

WYSIWYG MD
Modify document layout while thinking about the content of the document. Save time and focus on content of your document
End result looks exactly like what is on screen. Smaller document size
Higher familiarity Interoperable and future-proof

There are some markdown editors out there that combine elements from WYSIWYG by providing a preview that give you a sense of what your document looks like while you are formatting it with markdown. Examples include:

But you can really use any text editor and then use Pandoc to convert markdown to any type of document (including presentations).
