Password Managers

  • 🖥️ Always use a password manager. They help you generate very secure passwords.
  • 🗂️ Create a different password for each account. Reusing passwords between services is unsafe. For example, if you reuse a password between a social network and email. If one of them is compromised, these passwords will be traded online and attackers will try to use them with other services.
  • 🔒 Password managers store your passwords encrypted. They can store their database on your computer or in the cloud. Both options are better than writing them in a word document and leaving them exposed on your hard disk.
  • 🎱 Don't depend on the master password alone. Password managers don't let you see the passwords without entering a master password. It can be a good idea to add another factor of security. Some password managers lets you use a Key file (can be stored on a removable USB thumbdrive) or a hardware key (such as YubiKey).
