Activists, teachers, and students gathered outside the public prosecutor's office in downtown Cairo today to demand the release of Philip Rizk, who was detained by state security yesterday after a police crackdown on a solidarity March for Gaza.
15 activists walk for Gaza before being stopped by state security for four hours.
This white Suzuki microbus took Philip Rizk at the night of the 6th of February 2009 from the Abou Zaabal Police station in Qalyoubia to an unknown location. Possibly a state security headquarters in Cairo. The license placed was covered with a dark piece of cloth.
“The march is a reminder of the continuing suffering in Palestine, which is a political problem — we don’t want to join the humanitarian bandwagon,” said Rizk, adding that 85 percent of Gazans rely on aid.

“There was information that Heim was in Egypt working as a police doctor between 1967 and the beginning of the ’70s,” said Joachim Schäck, head of the fugitive unit at the state police. “This lead proved to be false.”

This article examines the biblical narrative relating to the Hebrew Patriarch Jacob (Israel) in the book of Genesis for evidence of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), as defined by the criteria of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV). A close literal reading of the text supports Jacob's provisional diagnosis with chronic PTSD following the disappearance and apparent death of his favorite son, Joseph. T
The contributors to this volume are keenly aware that mental health professionals, while well trained to identify and treat psychopathology, are insufficiently informed or cognizant of human resilience, of how, and of what, intrapsychic, interpersonal, and psychosocial factors are operative in adaptive coping with and recovering from trauma. These authors, several of whom themselves were subjected to severe trauma, address the matter of resilience from the vantage point of their own personal and clinical experiences.
This comprehensive core textbook analyzes how resilient people navigate the troubled waters of life’s traumas and identifies how learning about resilience may help cultivate this quality in other, less resilient, people. Author Morley D. Glicken explains the inner self-healing processes of resilient people and helps individuals training in the helping professions to learn to use these processes in working with their clients.

Absolutists who violently rejected offers of money or peace for sacred land were considerably more inclined to accept deals that involved their enemies making symbolic but difficult gestures. For example, Palestinian hard-liners were more willing to consider recognizing the right of Israel to exist if the Israelis simply offered an official apology for Palestinian suffering in the 1948 war. Similarly, Israeli respondents said they could live with a partition of Jerusalem and borders very close to those that existed before the 1967 war if Hamas and the other major Palestinian groups explicitly recognized Israel’s right to exist.
One of the great mysteries is why people are often their own worst enemies. It's always confused me and it's at the heart of religion as well. I consider myself an optimist about humanity.
Governmental policy with regard to monopolies (e.g., permitting, prohibiting or regulating them) can have major effects not only on specific businesses and industries but also on the economy and society as a whole.

For each point of a road network, let there be given the number of cars starting from it, and the destination of the cars. Under these conditions one wishes to estimate the distribution of traffic flow. Whether one street is preferable to another depends not only on the quality of the road, but also on the density of the flow. If every driver takes the path that looks most favorable to him, the resultant running times need not be minimal. Furthermore, it is indicated by an example that an extension of the road network may cause a redistribution of the traffic that results in longer individual running times.
